Councillors go against officers’ recommendations and refuse application

Plans to install a 5G telecoms mast just 15 metres from a couple’s front window have been rejected by city councillors.

Peter and Patricia Craig told of their horror at the prospect of the 20-metre mast appearing directly outside their home on the Greenacres estate off Beverley High Road. They have lived at the property opposite the junction with Downfield Avenue for just over 32 years.

Speaking at a council planning committee, the couple said the proposed mast and three associated cabinets would ruin a raised greenspace area originally designed to minimise the impact of the nearby main dual carriageway. Mrs Craig said: “We love the house and the open aspect across the greenway.
