The UK EM Radiation Research Trust welcomes the MAHA Commission’s thoughtful work in addressing the growing health crisis affecting children and adolescents. However, as long-standing advocates for environmental health and child protection, we respectfully note that one crucial factor has been entirely omitted: the potential biological and neurological harms of chronic exposure to radiofrequency (RF) and electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation from smartphones, Wi-Fi, and other wireless technologies.

A Missing Piece: Brain Science and Environmental Exposure

 A growing body of peer-reviewed research, including the work of Prof. Dr. Gertraud Teuchert-Noodt a distinguished neurobiologist underscores the need to address how RF/EMF exposure intersects with digital dependency and child development. In her article and video lecture “No way out of the smartphone epidemic without taking into account the findings of brain research” (Diagnose-funk, 2024), she outlines how early exposure to smartphones affects the developing prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and dopaminergic systems, potentially impairing impulse control, memory, and mental resilience.

Prof. Teuchert-Noodt makes it clear: this is not just a behavioural issue it’s a neurological one.

Furthermore, chronic EMF exposure especially at night and in close contact with the body has been associated with sleep disruption, oxidative stress, inflammation, and cognitive dysfunction, particularly in children whose brains and immune systems are still developing.

A Reminder of Mr. Kennedy’s Own Position

 We respectfully remind the Commission that its Chair, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has previously voiced strong public support for the UK EM Radiation Research Trust’s mission to protect children from the unchecked rollout of wireless technology.

In a 2020 letter to then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Mr. Kennedy and Dafna Tachover of Children’s Health Defense wrote:

“Robert F. Kennedy, Jr Chairman of CHD, and Dafna Tachover, Director of CHD’s 5G & Wireless Harms project support the UK EM Radiation Research Trust in their call on the UK Government to defend the rights and health of UK citizens and especially children from Big Telecom’s scheme to rollout 5G. The harms of radio-frequencies and microwave-based technologies have been proven scientifically and the harms are existing and widespread. We work daily with children who have been injured from this technology including from 5G small cell installations. The UK’s ICNIRP based guidelines, just like the US’s FCC, are decades obsolete and false. ICNIRP is an industry shell and its scientists are tainted as has been confirmed by Courts. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr calls on Prime Minister Boris Johnson and political leaders to protect those who have been harmed already by this radiation and prevent further harm. We must stop the uncontrolled proliferation of wireless technology and the on-going deployment of 5G, which will exponentially increase exposure to this harmful radiation and consequently, the sickness of children, adults and the ecosystem.”

 This powerful statement speaks directly to the concerns the MAHA report now seeks to address and yet it omits the most biologically potent aspect of digital tech: wireless radiation exposure.

Scientific Evidence and Resources

An Invitation for Action

We respectfully urge the MAHA Commission to:

  • Include RF/EMF exposure in its ongoing assessments of digital technology’s impact on children.
  • Revisit the scientific evidence from independent sources, such as Prof. Teuchert-Noodt, the BioInitiative Report, the Ramazzini Institute, and other independent scientific resources.
  • Acknowledge prior advocacy by its own Chair on this issue.
  • Apply the precautionary principle where science indicates potential harm especially when it comes to vulnerable children.

Including this critical environmental health issue will strengthen MAHA’s leadership and ensure its legacy in protecting the health of future generations.
