Holiday Inn Liverpool, Lime Street, Liverpool L1 1NQ

For the attention of the Holiday Inn Hotel Manager and Directors,

I am saddened to hear that the Great Resist conference is cancelled.  Richard Vobes alerted the public about this shocking development. Thousands of people are horrified with over 40k people viewing this post within the last 24 hours.  They’ve stopped this one, BUT it is NOT over! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsNHa3FfBno

The cancellation was also reported by Conservative Woman – Holiday Inn cancels ‘Great Resist’ conference https://www.conservativewoman.co.uk/holiday-inn-cancels-great-resist-conference/

I understand that the Holiday Inn claim they do not wish to take a side on political matters, but that is exactly what you have done by cancelling this event based on a letter received from a group called Liverpool against Hate. This group has obviously exerted control and advantage over the Holiday Inn.

The Holiday Inn has now lost a booking with over 350 guests with many people travelling to our city from other parts of the country and you have cancelled with just two day’s notice.  How can Liverpool Against Hate with 524 followers carry such influence over the Holiday Inn?  This group claim they are against hate however they have carried out an act of hate by stopping free speech.

You have cancelled an event that was due to take place on one of the most significant days of the year Armistice Day – a day when we remember those who fought for our freedom.  Article 19 states: “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights

Liverpool Against Hate have since placed a tweet congratulating members for sending letters to the holiday Inn while highlighting their letter and the conference cancellation. They claim they had insight to the likely politics of the conference offering distorted views.  This conference had nothing to do with politics and yet you have taken the word of this group and carried out a destructive and disruptive decision as judge and jury without seeking the views of the conference organiser.  Good and fair leaders listen to both sides to make a fair informed decision.

I was due to attend this event with my partner tomorrow with an interest in learning and sharing information about health, electromagnetic fields, farming, and hear the talk from a priest.  What is hateful about that?

You’ve been played and unfairly influenced by a group using manipulation to carry influence over you. This is deeply disturbing and damaging not only for the reputation of the Holiday Inn, but for the reputation of Liverpool as a whole. You have brought shame on our city.  We are a city that prides ourselves on justice, equality, and fairness, and a city of people who are known to fight for our rights.

I call on the Holiday Inn to offer an apology to the conference organiser Liz Phillips, the speakers and to those who have lost money and time preparing to attend this event.

Yours faithfully,

Eileen O’Connor
